Kudos for Spring 2005, LIS 5364 Students!

High praise has been coming in for the spring 2005 semester Web Development and Administration (LIS 5364) class taught by Dr. Kyung Kim. The class was divided into five groups that worked on building websites for organizations, including the CI’s Goldstein Library and Florida College of Integrated Medicine in Orlando.

Particularly touching was an e-mail that Dr. Kim received from the executive director of the Southwestern Center for Law and Policy (SWCLAP) in Tucson, Arizona, Hallie Bongar White, Esq. One of the student groups rebuilt her organization’s aging website. White said:

We feel truly blessed that you and your class were able to assist us in producing a professional, good looking, easily accessible website! You have helped us to help others save the lives of Native American women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.

This is wonderful example of how CI students are participating in learning experiences that perform a public service for the community-a win/win situation. White goes on to praise the group’s problem solving ability, cultural sensitivity, service and attention to detail. Her letter ends by saying:

…I want to thank you for the tremendous gift you have given us. We operate on a shoestring budget and your gift has helped us to develop the professional image in cyberspace that we lacked…The Southwest Center for Law and Policy recommends your students without hesitation and we plan on bragging about what wonderful service we received from your FSU class!

Congratulations to the spring 2005 semester LIS 5364 class for their excellent work.
