Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and six years relevant experience or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to ten years.
- Experience with Cisco IOS operating system in a heterogeneous environment. Experience with BGP, OSPF, MPLS, QoS and VPNs is desirable. Experience With Cisco ASA firewalls and VPNs.
- Experience with Switching technologies including VLANs, Spanning-tree, Etherchannel and other layer 2 protocols.
- Experience with DHCP, DNS/Bind and other address management software.
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux command line tools and administration.
- Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing a variety of network equipment in a large multi-protocol, heterogeneous environment.
- Experience interpreting complex written specifications and conditions.
- Experience conveying technical information to technical and non-technical users.
- Experience working successfully in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
Class E Drivers License required.

Responsibilities
Position serves in a senior networking role in the Core network group. Responsible for design, installation, maintenance, operation and repair of the core and other complex networks the University.
Specifies, installs, configures, monitors, and manages core campus networking equipment and access to the Internet for the entire University with an emphasis on impacts to Auxiliary Services groups. Collects and analyzes network performance monitoring data. Provides technical advice and consultation to ITS staff and users of the campus network concerning complex computer/network-related problems and applications.
This position is in the Core networking Group of ITS/TNS. Primary area of specialization encompasses the design and implementation of advanced large-scale computer internetworking solutions for Auxiliary Service groups at FSU. Provides technical support for the campus-wide data network and associated systems through the diagnosis of problems and the taking of appropriate actions any time, day or night.
Functions as project leader for network services primarily associated with Auxiliary Service groups on campus. This includes: a) responsibility for training, development, and overall performance of analysis, as well as regular reporting of their progress b) effectively distributing workload; c) offering advice and consultation in the coding, debugging, and testing of complex networking software; and d) reviewing and editing documentation.
Advise the Associate Director and other ITS management on the revision of established policies, procedures and standards to insure that current policies remain up-to-date and relevant in a dynamic computer networking environment. Interface with other university and commercial sites in the area of large-scale data networks, acting as a representative of ITS.
