Chavez-Hernandez Receives Outstanding Volunteer Award

Dr. Maria Chavez-Hernandez, Associate in Information Studies at the College of Information, received the Outstanding Volunteer Achievement Award from the Florida Association of Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas (FAVACA) at their annual volunteer reception in Tallahassee on April 20.

During the reception, Dr. Chavez-Hernandez was recognized for her volunteer achievements and presented an award. Earlier this year, she trained the staff of municipal libraries in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The training was sponsored by FAVACA, which provides short-term training and technical assistance to improve environmental, social and economic conditions in the area. During her visit, Dr. Chavez-Hernandez had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Leonel Fernandez, President of the Dominican Republic. Dr. Maria Chavez-Hernandez received her Ph.D. from the College of Information in 1991.
