Librarian for Business Administration, Kresge Library, Oakland University, Rochester, MI

Oakland University’s Kresge Library seeks a creative and energetic librarian to join us in advancing the University’s high-quality academic programs centered on student success, innovation in the curriculum, and the use of effective educational practices. The successful candidate will focus on subject-based library instruction, outreach, and research partnerships with the OU School of Business Administration, which includes the departments of accounting and finance, decision and information science, economics, and management and marketing. Working in the Library’s highly collaborative and team-based environment, this position will have a strong focus on the human use of computing across disciplines, and will participate in the development of e-research tools, computer-based applications, and data-support services for the Library, the School of Business Administration, and other collaborative research initiatives within the University. The candidate will serve as an active member of the Kresge faculty, contributing to the its public-services programs and initiatives, and will be a leader in current and emerging trends in business and informatics research and scholarly communication, working closely with other subject librarians to incorporate support for data management and preservation into library services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA-accredited MLS degree. Demonstrated subject knowledge and experience in business administration, including conducting business research and knowledge of business information resources. Demonstrated understanding of issues related to research and scholarly communication issues, such as copyright, open access, and data management and preservation. Demonstrated knowledge of information technologies and current research trends in informatics. Strong commitment to information-literacy instruction, and demonstrated aptitude for teaching in multiple formats.        Effective interpersonal, oral, written, and online communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students.        Potential to meet library’s requirements for promotion and tenure, which require research and publication.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Undergraduate degree and/or advanced degree (e.g., second master’s degree or Ph.D.) in a discipline related to the subject specialization. Two or more years of professional experience in an academic library. Experience with information- technology applications, data management, and human-computer interaction design and programming. Scholarly publications and demonstrated professional activities.

RANK, SALARY, BENEFITS:  This is a tenure-track, eight-month, bargaining-unit faculty appointment. Attainment of tenure is dependent upon job performance, scholarship, and service. Appointment may be made at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level; professional rank and salary will be determined by credentials and experience.
