“Name that car!”

Fruit snacks.

@Microsoft for always featuring new ways to use technology to enhance people’s lives.

It’s not the destination that matters, but the journey it takes to get there.
The Career
Tell us about your job:
I work as a Support Engineer – I serve as the highest technical resource for fortune 500 companies during mission critical problems using our products and services. I am part of Exchange Online, and I work on resolving issues like Outlook connectivity, mailbox migrations, anti-spam, etc.. Some of the notable companies I’ve worked with are Facebook, Ubisoft, and Blizzard.
What does your average day look like?
I check emails from customers to see if any logs were collected for analysis then schedule meetings to discuss the issue at hand in great detail. I always pick up new cases/problems to work on, utilizing various tools to debug and solve problems.
How did your education prepare for your career?
I think one of the most important things in your career outside of work ethic and passion is being able to network. FSU provided a lot of opportunity to break out of my shell to meet and connect with people, and that goes a long way in any career.
How has working in your industry changed the way you look at the world?
The work I do impacts a lot more people, and calls for a lot more responsibility. It’s a scary feeling, but a proud one too. It is also a very humbling experience, because there is always something new to learn.
Share a notable (funny, embarrassing, exciting) experience you’ve had at work:
As a Microsoft Academy for College hire, we get to travel to conferences and training that gather our peers together, and meet different individuals in various fields. I got to meet a lot of interesting/smart people who ultimately share the same passion: technology.
Who do you look to for inspiration?
My dad is probably my biggest inspiration in life. He is an extremely hard worker, but always puts family first. While he always had high expectations of me, he was always supportive of me pursuing my passion. He was the silent motivator for me to do better, and to never give up.
How do you handle work-life balance?
Work-life balance was hard at first because there is so much ramping up in the beginning and some days you just have to put the extra hours in to get the work done. I’ve learned to balance this out these days by not working once I’m off work, and not responding to emails at home unless they’re mission critical.
What motivates you?
My biggest motivation is knowing that there is somewhere I want to be, and that I will never be happy if I didn’t try getting there. That’s what drives me forward.
What advice would you give yourself in college?
No one can turn back time, so take advantage of the opportunities you get and don’t look back.
