The Opportunity:
The Library Technical Assistant will perform a variety of detailed, moderately complex technical support duties within one or more functional areas of the Health Sciences Library, requiring skill in the understanding of established library methods, procedures, and the use of specific library tools.
Responsibilities:
- Manages and maintains the technology resources (LTL) at the Health Sciences Library including budgeting and tracking Library Technology items.
- Manages the circulation of technology and repairs if necessary.
- Manages orders (and coordinates with the library director on orders) for iPads and deployment of iPads to medical students as well as deployment and management of the Apps for iPads as well as other software items for all library technology.
- Provides basic reference services to library patrons.
- Provides individual instruction on the use of online catalog, and the College of Medicine website, directing patrons to the electronic resources available through the Health Sciences Library and UCF main campus libraries.
- Provides general information on library services and answers questions from library users.
- Instructs users in the use of library systems and equipment and provide general information on the use of library facilities and services.
- Keeps the supervisor informed about the overall status of the security of the library space and materials.
- Provides backup assistance for inter-library loan services for the College of Medicine and assists the public services team with charging, renewing, and discharging books and materials using the online Alma circulation system.
- Monitors and maintains the library instance of EZproxy.
- Informs the director when issues or problems develop with EZproxy.
- Serves as the liaison between the library and the IT department.
- Creates and implements the LTL policies and procedures to be in compliance with UCF COM security policies for circulating media, software and library commons technology.
- Generates reports and notices.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work well with colleagues, students, faculty and staff.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
- Comfortable using computers, laptops, iPads, and other technology.
