School of Communication alumna Nikki Méndez has been recognized as an Ad Age Rising Star 2024. The Rising Star awards are designed to celebrate those who are up-and-coming, making their mark on the marketing and advertising industry. The Stars have worked to demonstrate substantial growth, creativity, and initiative in non-managerial roles.
“It feels very surreal, like a ‘pinch me’ moment,” Méndez said. “It’s reassuring knowing that what I’ve been doing built up to something that is really important and cool.”
Nikki Méndez joined Weber Shandwick as an art director last June, and immediately helped in creating the idea for Kellanova of the first ever edible mascot that was presented at the Pop-Tarts Bowl this past December. The winning team devoured the pastry, and this marketing move had the internet buzzing.
Méndez is also the lead art director with Weber Shandwick for Eggo Waffles. She develops concepts and visuals, designs aspects for the brand, and helps with the photography and videography.
New projects for Cheez-It and Eggo have also recently been released that Méndez made significant contributions toward.
When asked if she has any advice to share, Méndez said, “Stay confident and don’t let anyone make you feel like you’re not good enough. Ignore the imposter syndrome like nothing you’ve ever ignored before until its gone. Then once it’s gone, you’ll forget you ever had it.”
