School of Communication alumna Brooke Garringer was chosen as an honoree for the 2024 Cynopsis Top Women in Media in the “PR Gurus” category.
The award celebrates the past achievements and future potential of women in media, reaffirming their vital role in driving innovation, creativity, and positive change. From executives and innovators to content creators and marketers, this honor acknowledges the diverse talents and expertise of women shaping the media landscape.
Cynopsis is well-known and revered in her industry, “so it’s certainly an award that I’m especially proud of and to have the opportunity to be acknowledged for the work I’ve done is pretty awesome.”
Currently serving as Head of Communications at Tastemade, she successfully built a full-service marketing team from the ground up.
While attending Florida State University, she studied Public Relations. “The writing and presentation skills I learned are the same skills I’m applying every day,” said Garringer. She credited the late Dr. Jay Rayburn for her career choice, “He was certainly a master at his craft. I really have him to thank for where I am at because his Introduction to Public Relations class is the reason that I chose my path.”
As Head of Communications, she reports directly to the CEO and hopes to continue to level up her corporate communication skills within the role. “I have just been so lucky to learn what I’ve learned and had the opportunities presented to me that I have, so I definitely see myself here, working with our CEO for a very long time,” said Garringer. “I hope to be in the media industry for a long time. I love it, I believe in it, and I think it’s incredibly interesting.”
Garringer also shared advice for current students. “Stay tapped into your network because you never know who might lead you to your next job or even who might introduce you to a journalist you’ll work with.” She welcomes students to connect with her on LinkedIn.
