Meet Sydney Sherry, a double major in Media & Communication Studies and Social Work, and the 2025 President of Lambda Pi Eta (LPE), the national communication honor society at Florida State University. As President of Lambda Pi Eta, Sherry demonstrates impressive leadership and professional development. She highlights her passion for community building within the School of Communication with her role.
With a background in theater and a love for communication, Sherry found LPE to be a way to connect with like-minded students and also explore her interest in collaboration and marketing. “Taking on the presidency was a major networking opportunity and a way to test my leadership abilities,” Sherry said.
Under Sherry’s leadership, Lambda Pi Eta has improved its professional development offerings—hosting career events with the FSU Career Center and creating academic-focused workshops. “We have worked hard to maintain high GPA and coursework standards for members while also providing important resources for their success,” Sherry said.
One of Sherry’s main goals has been improving communication within the organization. “Creating new events and keeping members informed is crucial to maintaining our prestige,” she said. Her leadership has resulted in stronger connections and higher engagement among members.
Sherry’s favorite experience as president was organizing the Fall 2024 initiation ceremony for new members. “Coordinating with members, exec, and our faculty advisor made the event impactful and elevated Lambda Pi Eta’s presence within FSU,” she recalled.
When asked why it is important to participate in Lambda Pi Eta, Sherry described that it provides students with career-ready skills and offers active involvement in their community. “Members earn points through volunteering, attending career fairs and networking with professionals,” Sherry said. “Recognition from a national honor society like LPE is incredibly valuable and expands your connections.”
