MEDIA SPECIALIST Reports to: Lower School Head Wage/Hour Status: Exempt; Full-time, 10 months Qualifications required for this position: Education/Certification: Masters degree in Library or Information Services from accredited college Florida Teachers Certification as an Educational Media Specialist Valid Driver’s License Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of library science General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in working with computers and other types of technology Major Responsibilities and Duties: Implement the school library and MakerSpace programs to meet identified needs. Provide group instruction and individual user guidance in location of resources and use of research techniques. Consult with teachers on the appropriate use of materials for classroom instruction. Manage the acquisition, processing, organization, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of resources. Evaluate library/media program on a regular basis and implement changes based on findings. Instructional Strategies Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment. Cooperate with members of staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods. Use technology in the teaching/learning process. Management and Organization Create an environment appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Employ effective student behavior management strategies in the media center. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
