Visiting Librarian @ USF Libraries

The University of South Florida Libraries, Tampa campus, seeks two Visiting Librarians in the Library Student Success (LSS) unit. The Visiting Librarian positions are non-tenure track, full-time, 12-month appointments, with the possibility for a 12-month extension. The Visiting Librarian supports the library’s mission to “inspire research, creativity, and learning by connecting the USF community to relevant and high-quality information.” While based in the Library Student Success unit, there will be opportunities to explore librarianship in other Library units, such as Special Collections, Digital Scholarship Services and Resource Sharing. This position reports to the Interim Director for Research & Instruction at the USF Tampa campus. The USF Libraries values diversity of thought, perspective, experience, and people and is actively committed to a culture of inclusion and respect.  New graduates are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching library and information literacy workshops and classes to undergraduate and graduate students within assigned academic departments both in-person and online
  • Collaborating with fellow LSS Librarians to develop, design, implement, and assess the libraries’ offerings of online asynchronous instructional objects
  • Providing reference services both synchronously and asynchronously
  • Collaborating with undergraduate, graduate and faculty in the discovery and use of scholarly resources and technologies
  • Engaging and participating in ongoing assessment of library instruction and research services
  • Working in other units of the library may include Resource Sharing addressing copyright issues, contract restrictions, and reciprocal agreements; Special Collections developing a proficiency in teaching with primary source materials; and the Digital Scholarship Services’ institutional repository and scholarly communications outreach program.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution by August  6, 2021
  • Familiarity with and/or experience teaching the practices and methods of information literacy instruction

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Academic library work experience
  • Experience in instructional design and understanding student learning
  • Experience or coursework utilizing libguides and/or software for the creation of digital objects
