At Florida State University, Downey majored in Communication for Business because of its flexible career options. After her undergraduate studies, she earned her Master of Science in Journalism from Florida A&M University.

School of Communication alumna Krista Witiak was awarded an Emmy for her series “Outdoor Colorado!” The series was awarded in the Lifestyle/Magazine/Informational/Instructional – Short Form Content category at the 2024 Emmys on July 20. Witiak won alongside her photojournalist, Ray Harless. “This win acknowledges the countless hours and effort I’ve put into the Outdoor Colorado series. This marks a significant milestone in my career, and I can only imagine the doors and new opportunities that it opens up,” Witiak said.

FLA awards honor different individuals, organizations, and additional library supporters who extend help to their library system. Dellosa and Jimenez were both awarded The Betty Davis Miller Youth Services Award which recognizes an individual or group for their outstanding program creation which offers direct service to youth through a measurable impact.
