School Researchers Secure National AI Infrastructure Award to Advance Patient–Clinician Communication

A team of iSchool researchers has been awarded a prestigious allocation through the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot Program to advance cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence for healthcare. The project, titled “Fine-Tuning Open-Source Large Language Models to Support Real-World Patient–Clinician Communication in Laboratory Test Results Interpretation” (NAIRR250293), was reviewed and approved for full allocation by the NAIRR program.

SCOM Alumnus Plays Significant Role in iGem Gold Medal Wins

School of Communication Alumnus Aidan Marengo served as the Visual Arts Lead for the FSU international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team, which won a gold medal for the second year in a row at the iGEM Grand Jamboree. The iGEM Grand Jamboree was held from Oct. 28-31, 2025, at the Paris Convention Centre in France, where FSU was one of two universities from Florida with an iGEM team.

SCSD Hosts FSUs Inaugural Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program

This summer, Florida State University’s School of Communication and Science Disorders (SCSD) hosted its inaugural six-week Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program (ICAP). The program, designed by Dr. Elizabeth Madden and Faculty Clinical Supervisor Ellen Nimmons, focuses on utilizing a new clinical service delivery model to better the communication skills of those with aphasia.
