COMM Alum Michael Belanger Promoted at Dell

In 2007, Panama native Michael Belanger transferred to Florida State. Two years later, in 2009, he would graduate from Florida State with a degree in Communication. The job hunt began and Michael was focused on finding a multinational company that he could grow and learn from. He ended up working for Dell and has grown to love the IT industry for it’s fast-paced vibe and constant change.

Four years ago, returned to Panama to join the team at Dell. He started in internal communications and over time, he expanded into regional activities and eventually took over external communications. Michael worked to implement and manage communication strategies for the region, assuring communications aligned with the Dell brand and voice. He blogged for the Dell Latin America team and trained others in social media practices for Dell

Michael was promoted in 2015, moving back stateside to Dell’s headquarters in Round Rock, Texas. Still in internal communications, he now manages communications for the Chief Financial Officer, Legal and Corporate Development departments.

Now Belanger works to identify opportunities and risks for Dell, Michael works closely with each department to create integrated marketing campaigns that span across print, digital and social media.

It’s been six years in the professional realm and Michael recalls his internship at Florida State being a real game changer. The opportunity to see what the “real world” is like helps prepare the next generation of employees.

Though it’s been a few years, his education’s influence on his career is steadfast. “It definitely opened many doors as far as landing that first job,” he shared. “I work in communications so my education has been critical for my career success. As a communicator, I need to have writing & persuasive skills, always keep in mind the overall objective and be very detail-oriented.”

Five years from now, Michael sees himself being challenged at Dell. “I like that I’m constantly learning, leading new initiatives, working with people all over the world,” he said. “It never gets boring.”
