Ad Team wins “Best Research” category at the district competition

Arrowhead Advertising, the Florida State University (FSU) student advertising team, won the category for “Best Research” at the district four National Student Advertising Competition of the American Advertising Federation (AAF).  They placed third overall among five teams at this competition that took place at the Rosen Center Hotel in Orlando, Fla. on April 4 and 5, 2014.

“The students work exceptionally hard on the campaign each year, and it gives them an opportunity to conduct research, develop a strategy, produce materials in multiple media and present to industry professionals,” said FSU College of Communication & Information Associate Dean, Dr. Stephen McDowell.

More than 150 colleges and universities compete each year in the National Student Advertising Competition.  In the past, Arrowhead Advertising has won first place in the district championship for 7 out of 10 years.  They have also placed in the top 10 in the national competition for four consecutive years from 2006-10.

“Many of our students have secured great internships or been hired at some of the top ad agencies in the country as a result of their work on this annual project,” said Professor Barry Solomon, research associate in the School of Communication and the team’s faculty advisor.

The 2013 Arrowhead Advertising team roster included: Stephanie Calderon, Clark Cofer (Account Planner), Katie Dyer, Elise Falcon, Sarah Jean Ferraris, Leah Jarem, Amanda Koegler, Laura Linthicum, Erica Lovelace, Madalyn McLane, Nicole Regan (Captain and Creative Director), Jodeci Richards, Larry Richter, Katie Robison, Sam Schmidt, Jeff Schermer, Rachel Shannon, Daphna Shull, Dylan Taylor, Ryan Vandenbosch, Ashley van der Laan, and Montana Zion.

Arrowhead Ad Team member, Ashley van der Laan, remarked, “Being a part of this team has, hands down, been one of the most rewarding experiences in my collegiate career that has undoubtedly prepared me for my future. This past year I had the privilege of working with such amazing student peers who I was proud to call my teammates. We worked a tremendous amount, and then got to see it come to light at districts.”
