The College of Communication and Information is proud to have some of our distinguished alumni featured in this year’s Seminole 100. Keep reading to learn more about CCI alumna Terrie Ard, COO of Moore Agency, and one of this year’s recipients of the Seminole 100 award.
While attending Florida State University, Ard met the CEO and Founder of Moore Agency, Karen Moore, and was immediately sold on her brand and vision. Ard has spent much of her career at the agency, only stepping away for a few years to work with the Florida Department of Agriculture, where she promoted seafood and aquaculture throughout the United States.
The Moore Agency is an independent and globally ranked marketing and communications agency based in Tallahassee. To Ard, the most rewarding part of her position has been watching the company grow. “At the core of this successful growth has been the opportunity to build our best-in-class company culture,” said Ard. The company holds a 92% employee retention rate, and has been recognized by Florida Trend Best Places to Work 12 years in a row.
When reflecting on her time at FSU, Ard credits Dr. Jay Rayburn and the entire School of Communication faculty for providing the foundation for her success. “FSU taught me how to be a strategic leader, a good communicator and writer, and to see the bigger picture,” she said. “We learned the importance of Research, Action, Communication and Evaluation, which even today is the foundation for successful communication campaigns.”
Ard has five tips for current students as they prepare to start their careers:
- Find your passion.
- Proactively seek opportunities.
- Build your network and have mentors on your speed dial.
- Learn the craft of asking great questions.
- Be tenacious—and never give up on you.
