Dr. Aisha Johnson (MLIS ’09, PhD ’15), distinguished alumna of the College of Communication and Information, was named a 2024 Mover and Shaker for her contributions to the Library and Information Sciences profession.
“Any recognition is always nice when you are so passionate about the work that you do, but it really just validates that the profession is with you. I’m doing what I’m passionate about, fulfilling my purpose, and now I’ll continue to build on this platform,” said Johnson.
“Movers and Shakers” awards are granted to leaders with a record of excellence in their work, civic engagement, and philanthropic efforts. As noted by Library Journal, “Our 2024 Movers cohort represents a range of innovative, proactive, and supportive work; they are imaginative and kind and brave in a world that needs those qualities—and the results they produce—very much.”
Johnson currently serves as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Outreach at the Georgia Technology Library. As an advocate, educator, and scholar, Johnson understands that she can’t be everywhere, but aims to have a larger impact on the profession such as at institutions she has worked for. She subscribes to relentless advocacy and hopes to inspire others to develop leadership and growth opportunities where they stand, whether a titled leadership role or not. She wants people to spread this level of impact at their organizations, institutions, and throughout the profession.
Upon receiving a 2024 Movers and Shakers award, Johnson said, “FSU, particularly the School of Information, has made such a significant impact on encouraging me and allowing me to just exist in my most authentic self. I’m absolutely honored to have such a recognition because it gives me a lot of opportunity, not only to still advocate for the iSchool, but also the profession.”
Following this award recognition, she noted, “Whenever we get recognized for these awards, it’s great. It’s not what we’re doing it for, but it is a great highlight to remind you to keep going to whatever the next base is. The impact behind the Movers and Shakers award is to keep moving, keep shaking…”
