“Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” is the age-old mantra, but few are able to find their true calling in life. Alumnus Michael Bane (‘10) has found his calling and he’s chasing it.
Until recently, Bane had been living a double life. He worked in information technology security by day and a recording artist by night. The latter is his passion, his “music ministry” as he calls it.
Bane left his day job in the technology workforce and is a full-time, independent recording artist. He’s in the process of writing, producing and engineering two independent, solo compilations. They’ll be released in Tallahassee and followed by a tour of the tri-state area.
You’ve probably heard one or two of his catchy songs. “FSU has aired my songs on their radio station, in classrooms and all the athletic stadiums, including games at Doak Campbell among 80,000 fellow Seminoles,” he said. His song “We the Seminoles” has over 231,000 views on YouTube,
His newest video, “Zone (FSU Championship Edition)” mixes Bane’s track with a compilation of FSU Championship footage from 2014. The comment section of his videos shows a community of die-hard Seminole fans. His Youtube channel has over 375,000 views and he expects that to increase as he starts touring.
“I’ve had a large response to my music among the FSU community. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel throughout the country and even overseas to perform and share a positive message through my music. Having just begun my full-time music career, I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of support and encouragement I’ve received and I owe a large part of that feedback and success to Florida State University,” he says.
