Dr. Sang Hoo Oh, a School of Information alumnus, recently joined Catholic University of America’s faculty as a tenure-track assistant professor after finishing his postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

When a position that aligned with his research interests in AI policy and ethics became available at a university with a prestigious library and information science program, he knew it was a perfect opportunity for him.

“Earning a tenure-track role feels incredibly rewarding and fulfilling after the many years of hard work and dedication put into my Ph.D. and postdoctoral work,” said Oh. “I am excited about the opportunities to contribute to the department’s mission to educate highly competent, ethical librarians and other information professionals.”

When asked how his time at FSU’s School of Information’s doctoral program prepared him for this new opportunity, Oh said, “The program provided me with a strong foundation in research methodologies and advanced knowledge in my field.” He expressed gratitude to Dr. Marcia Mardis and his committee members for their mentorship and insights, and for helping him to navigate challenges and refine his research focus.

Oh plans to continue his research on AI policy and AI workforce development. Specifically, he will examine how AI can be responsibly integrated in education, government, and other sectors.

Additionally, he will develop strategies for individuals navigating job markets and workforce requirements in the evolving AI-driven economy. This includes examining the skills and training necessary for effective AI integration, as well as addressing the potential impacts on job displacement and opportunities for reskilling.

“I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues at FSU and UIUC, and engaging with policymakers in Washington, D.C., to translate these research findings into actionable recommendations that benefit both academia and society,” said Oh.
