IT Alumna Jaliya Wilson Lands New Position

Information Technology (IT) alumna Jaliya Wilson (BS ’21) recently landed a new position as a Public Affairs Officer at the United States Navy. This position disseminates information to the public and press in hopes to deter misinformation regarding the U.S. Navy.

“I am extremely overjoyed with receiving this position. Nothing feels better than to know that I am joining an elite organization of Naval Officers whose goal is to give our public real information,” Wilson said.

Prior to being accepted into this role, Wilson had the opportunity to deploy and stand watch as the Combat Information Center Watch Officer. She also interned under senior-ranking Public Affairs Officers, who encouraged her to edit storylines based on major Naval events within her region. These opportunities helped lead her to her current position.

Wilson shared that the courses she took at Florida State University play a huge role in her job. “I was able to apply these lessons to my job which indeed helped me decode and process information to maintain our homeland security,” Wilson said.

“No matter where I have gone in my career, whether overseas or state-side, I always credit Florida State on affording me this opportunity of discovering my love for Information and Technology,” Wilson said. “This passion has assisted me in becoming not only an officer in the Navy, but being able to dissect information as soon as I am given a new project.”

Wilson is excited for what’s to come as a Public Affairs Officer, which includes her upcoming assignment in Yokosuka, Japan.
