SCOM Alumna Recognized as Seminole 100 Honoree

Meagan Nixon is a School of Communication alumna who has been selected as a Seminole 100 honoree. Seminole 100 is an annual celebration at FSU that highlights the 100 fastest-growing businesses owned or led by FSU alumni.

Being accepted into the Seminole 100 is incredibly humbling. To be recognized among such exceptional business leaders and fellow FSU alumni is truly an honor,” Nixon said.

Nixon is a Tallahassee native who joined the FSU in 2007. She later graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication Studies. Today, she serves as the founder and CEO of Big Fish Marketing, a Christian-based marketing agency.

Nixon reflects on how FSU has impacted her personal and professional growth throughout the years.

“Being an FSU alumna and part of the Tallahassee community has had a profound impact on my personal growth. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by inspiring students, professors, leaders, and community members who constantly push one another to strive for more and never settle,” Nixon said.

She directly highlighted her mentors, Dennis Schnittker, who currently serves in university leadership within Communication, along with former News Director at WCTV and Professor, Triston Sanders. These individuals have heavily influenced Nixon and have instilled in her valuable knowledge throughout her collegiate journey. She also emphasizes how her mom has been her backbone and has impacted her personal life.

“She has faced countless challenges with grace, strength, and a smile, and she showed me what real leadership and resilience look like. She is truly my hero and someone I’m endlessly thankful for,” Nixon said.

Initially, she started off as the marketing director where she helped a company grow from a 15 million to 50-million-dollar company. That experience inspired her to pursue entrepreneurship and apply her own strategies to assist other companies that wanted to grow and make a meaningful impact.

She didn’t want to put her time into any company, but one that values ethics, passion, and community impact. Throughout her transition from marketing director to CEO, Nixon has learned so many lessons that continue to guide her today.

“Be methodical, strategic, and prayer-driven. Faith plays a major role in every decision I make. I wouldn’t be where I am without the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ,” Nixon said.

Now that it has been nearly eight years since she founded Big Fish Marketing, Nixon continues to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and views obstacles as an opportunity for growth.

As a business owner, she has faced many obstacles throughout her journey, but those challenges push her to grow daily. She emphasized how these experiences have helped her develop thick skin, accept rejection with grace, and continue to work hard every day.

“I truly believe that every no is a blessing in disguise and every client relationship is a blessing,” Nixon said. “This recognition reflects not just success, but resilience, faith, and growth.”

As a female business owner under 40, a wife, and a mother of two young children, Nixon values the support from her family and friends throughout her journey. She said she is honored by the trust her clients place on her to help grow their business. Big Fish Marketing is growing every day and she is thrilled about what’s in store for the future.
