This year, the College of Communication and Information (CCI) proudly celebrates several alumni who are featured in the Seminole 100, which recognizes 100 of the fastest growing Florida State University (FSU) alumni-owned and led businesses.
One of the notable alumni is Drew Piers (B.S. ‘14), who was recognized for his real estate investment and property management company, Piers Property Group.
Piers Property Group, which was established in 2015, is owned and operated by both Drew and his wife, Rebecca Piers, also an FSU alum. Their business is centered around investing in and managing real estate for both residential and commercial properties. For the last decade, the Pierses have made lasting impacts in the community and have enjoyed seeing it unfold right in front of them.
“Watching it grow, develop, and create opportunities for others has been incredible,” said Piers. “Real estate is a long-term game, and seeing our efforts pay off while building something lasting has been both impactful and exciting.”
Piers graduated with degrees in Public Relations and Political Science prior to pursuing a master’s degree in Applied American Politics and Policy here at FSU. When asked about professors who contributed to his future business success, Piers mentioned Dr. Jay Rayburn. “He would always listen patiently and respond directly — and he wouldn’t accept excuses for why something couldn’t be done. He was an amazing mentor.”
The lessons Piers learned from his professors played a significant role in his professional growth, shaping the leadership styles he applies today in managing both his real estate business and his role as a partner at the communications agency Sachs Media.
Currently, Piers teaches at FSU and mentors students to help guide them to be the best version of themselves.
“By mentoring and teaching students, sharing lessons from both my successes and failures, and creating opportunities for growth, my hope is to help the next generation of Seminoles build strong foundations for their careers,” said Piers.
He also spoke on his belief in “paying it forward” and emphasizes his commitment to build the bridge of encouragement and support that FSU has provided him over the years.
“Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. They’re inevitable but rarely result in permanent setbacks. What’s harder to correct is stagnation. If you keep pressing forward with a positive mindset, things tend to work out in your favor. FSU instilled in me the mindset to stay focused on taking the next step forward, which makes it easier to spot opportunities when they come along.” Piers said.
