Abstract: Changes in the landscape and policy of education in Germany have created a paradigm shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning. This shift has strongly influenced the development of school libraries as modern learning centers. Public libraries have also recognized the opportunity to position themselves as partners in education.

Since there is no national school library policy in Germany, many approaches to school library services are emerging. German librarians Helga Hoffman and Julia Ritell will present and discuss models related to these approaches, including partnerships between public library and schools that are working to best serve students.
