COMM professor quoted in USAToday.com article about journalism trends

Dr. Patrick Merle

Dr. Patrick Merle, an assistant professor at Florida State University’s School of Communication, was recently quoted in the article, “23 Corgis want you to click this headline,” published on USAToday.com.

The article talks about the catchy headline style of media outlets such as Buzzfeed, Huffington Post and Upworthy, and if it is changing the way college students read and interpret journalism.

Merle, a former journalist, is quoted about the subject and if it will affect the styles of traditional news sources.

“I don’t believe that news organizations such as The New York Times or The Washington Post will modify their standards to cater to the new generation,” Merle said.
