The Florida Library Association (FLA) Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that the application process has begun for the 2006 scholarships, which will be awarded at the Annual Conference (April 18-21, 2006 at the Buena Vista Palace Resort, Lake Buena Vista). There are three graduate school scholarships available: one at Florida State University, one at the University of South Florida and a third, the Minority scholarship, which may be awarded at either school.
Deadline for receipt of scholarship applications: March 6, 2006.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be a resident of Florida and
- have some experience in a Florida library;
- be admitted to an FSU or USF library/information science graduate degree program;
- commit to working in a Florida library for a minimum of one year after graduation; and
- be a n FLA member in good standing.
CHECKLIST OF ITEMS WHICH MUST BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR APPLICATION
- Essay detailing why you want to become a librarian (3 page limit); no specific format required
- Brief summary of your previous library work experience
- Information on your financial need for a scholarship
- An official letter of acceptance to FSU or USF library/information science programs
- Upper level (junior/senior) GPA, if applicable or graduate school GPA
- Number of hours completed toward degree, if applicable
- Verbal and quantitative score on GRE, if applicable

The Scholarships are created from a dedicated fund that was established in 1995. This fund is replenished through donations and fundraising activities. The primary fundraiser will be held on Thursday, April 20 at the FLA Conference. Be sure to purchase a ticket when you register for the conference!
