11 CCI students were inducted into the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society in late April as a part of the Spring 2022 inducted class.
The Garnet and Gold Scholar Society facilitates involvement and recognizes engaged, well-rounded undergraduate students who excel within and beyond the classroom in the areas of International Experience, Internship, Leadership, Research and Service. An undergraduate student who meets the criteria in three of the five areas, has their area reflections approved, and completes a Synthesis Reflection will qualify to graduate as a member of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society.
“The Garnet and Gold Scholar Society represents the completion of an entire college experience across so many different disciplines,” says inductee Luke Weaver. “Leaving Florida State with what I have learned through Garnet and Gold is to be prepared for anything and be ready to engage in a wide variety of instructions outside of school; it makes you ready for the workforce, and the real world outside of a college campus.”
Inductee Leah Abounader says, “A lesson that I learned through my participation in Garnet and Gold is that you should never be afraid to put yourself out there and experience new things. Applying for internships, and being in a leadership position, can all be really scary at first, but once you come out the other side, you will find that this experience is for the better and your confidence will only grow.”
Students were inducted into the Garnet and Gold Honor Society during a special ceremony hosted at the Askew Student Life Center on April 22nd. The inductees and their CCI school, are:
Leah Abounader, School of Information
Casey Chapter, School of Communication
Katherine Gibson, School of Communication

“I am so glad that CCI students took the opportunity to engage fully in experiential learning in addition to their academic programs while at FSU.” Interim Dean of CCI, Dr. Steve McDowell adds, “Recognition of their participation in each of the engagement areas is just a small part of the benefits of the Garnet and Gold Scholar Society.”
