What do academic libraries tweet about, and what makes a library tweet useful?, was published in October 2014 and analyzed 1,200 tweets from six large academic libraries. A content analysis revealed nine content types, with event and resource categories being tweeted about most often. In the age of growing social media usage, libraries have increased their social media presence. Twitter boasts more than 230 million active users a month and hosts more than 500 million tweets everyday. Tweets about events were most common, including food drives, blood drives and book sales; came in at 28.3 percent. Other tweets about faculty book signings, art and research were popular.
