Dr. M. Bowie Kotrla and Dr. Kathleen Burnett of the School of Information Studies at The Florida State University have been tapped to be the new authors of a chapter in the Library and Information Science Education Statistical Report. The chapter is prepared as part of the annual report of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE).
Dr. Kotrla and Dr. Burnett will author their first “Students Chapter” for the 2005 report. Its focus is demographic and enrollment data about students as well as class size, degrees awarded, financial aid, tuition and fees. The chapter of the report presents a compilation of the raw data submitted by over fifty accredited LIS programs in North America and a descriptive summary. It makes an important contribution to the accreditation process.
For several years, Dr. Kotrla has been compiling data submitted by FSU’s School of Information Studies. Dr. Kotrla has extensive training and experience in data analysis and statistics. Her Ph.D. is in Biology and she has an MS in Information Studies. Dr. Kotrla is responsible for institutional research at the School of Information Studies, and she brings her unique qualifications to bear on the problems of building useable information spaces from mounds of otherwise unintelligible data.
Dr. Burnett has been the Associate Dean of the School of Information Studies for seven years, with her current responsibilities being information technology and instructional development. During her tenure, she has come to have a deep and reflective understanding of the academy, discipline and students.
The report will be published by ALISE and posted on their website. View the “Students Chapter” of the 2003 report at http://ils.unc.edu/ALISE/2003/Students/Students01.htm.
