Jordon Andrade Receives ARL Diversity Scholars Award

Wins Association of Research Libraries Diversity Scholars Award

Jordon Andrade became one of twenty-two scholars to receive the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Diversity Scholars Award. As part of the 2007-2009 ARL Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce, the scholarship program provides a stipend of $10,000 over the two year period a scholar pursues his/her Masters degree in an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library science program, receives leadership training in conjunction with ALA Mid-Winter meeting in Philadelphia, January 2008, visits Purdue University Libraries, and undergoes a career placement assistant program that promotes diversity in ARL affiliated institutions.

Mr. Andrade will use this ARL scholarship to continue the pursuit of his academic goals in the College of Information at Florida State University. After acquiring his Master’s degree, Mr. Andrade will begin his Ph.D. work and build on his research at the Information Use Management and Policy Institute. Using his experience and leadership skills developed through the ARL Diversity Program and at the Institute, Mr. Andrade intends on developing innovative strategies that will help academic libraries thrive in an age of change.

Charles R. McClure, Director of the Information Institute, noted that Jordon has been an active researcher in a number of projects at the Institute including a study of the provision of E-Government services in libraries. McClure stated, “Jordon is an outstanding student researcher and is highly committed to the profession, we are extremely pleased that he chose to come to the College of Information at Florida State University and join us in the Information Institute.”
