Beginning in Fall 2003, we will be using a new service that provides convenient, 24-hour online access to more of your course materials. This is in response to numerous requests. Using this new service will also help the school meet its responsibilities regarding recent changes in copyright law.
CHANGES: Some courses use non-text book resources that are copyright protected. For your convenience, these materials will now be assembled by instructors and will be available for you to purchase from XanEdu, a provider of electronic course packs.
You can pay for your course packs using a credit card, a debit card, or an e-check. Once the course packs are purchased, you will be able to view, download and print the materials. In most cases, XanEdu can also print a course pack and ship it to you for an additional cost.
The XanEdu website is http://www.xanedu.com
On your first visit to the site, you will follow the “Register” link in the Student channel to set up your “My XanEdu” account. You will select a username and password. For the website to work properly, you must use Netscape Navigator version 4.7 (or later) or Internet Explorer version 5.5 (or later). XanEdu requires that cookies and Java scripts be enabled in your browser settings.
Once your account is set up, you will be able to search for your course packs. When you have located and paid for them, they will appear on your “My XanEdu” account page for convenient access. You will have access to your course pack for 180 days from the date of purchase. XanEdu provides Customer Support seven (7) days a week: http://www.xanedu.com/
STATUS QUO: Some things will not change. For example, you will continue to obtain textbooks and software in the same way. Instructors will also be able to provide direct access to materials in the public domain and, when their publishers allow it, to their own work.
You will still be able to access the wealth of free resources available through FSU database subscriptions. However, fewer items will be available on reserve in the Goldstein Library. Even if you have used copies of articles on reserve in the library before, most, if not all of these items, may now have to be accessed through XanEdu or other channels.
