Penn Biomedical Library Internship
Availability: one-year position available immediately
Hours: up to 20 hours per week, within 9am-6pm Monday-Friday time period.
Salary: $15/hour, paid sick and vacation time.
Overview: The Biomedical Library provides information resources, services and programs for the University of Pennsylvania Health System, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, Biomedical Graduate Studies, and the Department of Biology.
Duties:
The intern will be based in the Penn Biomedical Library (http://www.library.upenn.edu/biomed). The intern will act as an information and technology consultant, train people to use electronic resources and services, analyze and synthesize information and assist in developing programs for user education.
Routine duties include:
Providing reference and research services to patrons – in person, on the phone and on chat
1 hour/week covering the Penn Library IM/Chat reference service
Attending intern and staff meetings
Other projects as assigned may include:
Creating online tutorials, modules and guides
Preparing supporting materials for course-integrated instruction sessions
Researching and evaluating new software and technology for library implementation
Managing the library’s social media accounts
Preparing quizzes and other assessment tools
Providing support for the library’s poster printing service
Requirements:
Must be a current student in an ALA-accredited graduate degree program in library or information science.
Must have very strong computer skills (Office applications, HTML, Photoshop, and more) and be comfortable with database searching.
Must be able to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
Must be flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Prefer some experience with:
health science databases
instruction
course management systems (Blackboard or Canvas), Adobe Suite, Podcasting
Camtasia, Captivate or other screen capturing software
digital media hardware and software
