Brogan Museum

The Mary Brogan Museum of Art and Science is proud to announce its newest internship available to qualified undergraduate and graduate students studying in the arts, sciences, education, and Information and Library Sciences available Spring Semester 2011.

The Brogan Museum has partnered with the Oracle Education Foundation to become the second museum in North America providing art- and science-based projects to students through ThinkQuest Projects. ThinkQuest Projects is an online learning platform that helps k-12 students develop important 21st -century skills, including communication, critical thinking and technology skills. ThinkQuest provides users with a project environment that supports collaborative learning; technology competitions that challenge students to solve real-world problems; the award-winning ThinkQuest Library, a learning resource visited by millions; opportunities to interact with students worldwide; and professional development for educators.

The Museum’s partnership with the Oracle Education Foundation will allow the formal and informal aspects of learning to merge into a powerful learning tool through a platform students utilize every day – the Internet. The Brogan Museum’s newly created initial project is already utilized by students and teachers in India, Romania, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, Colombia, Peru, Italy, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Egypt, Australia, Puerto Rico, the United States and many other countries.

The Museum is seeking two interns to work with Education and IT staff to develop curricula and educational projects based on Museum exhibitions, to monitor site content and to work with Museum staff to ensure content is legitimate and there is no misuse of the system. Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week at the Museum, both independently and collaboratively, under the direction of Museum staff.

Required Skills:

Knowledge of educational planning tools; ability to conduct informational needs assessments; ability to transform exhibit content into learning projects; and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
