City of Lauderhill Internship Program

As of the summer of 2011, Mayor Richard J. Kaplan of Lauderhill, FL has created a part-time paid internship aide program for college and graduate students. The job entails multiple tasks that require two years experience in college. Students that apply should be studying in the areas of Political Science, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Administration, or in an area applicable to local government. Students will be required to fulfill such duties as, but not limited:

  • Attend commission meetings plus take notes
  • Speaking and responding to constituents on behalf of the mayor
  • Represent the Mayor at association meetings and various other functions
  • Conduct research and office responsibilities
  • Various office tasks

Internships are offered each semester (i.e., fall, spring, summer) and students will be expected to serve through the entire semester, excluding finals week. Students will learn a variety of skills through their expected tasks. They must have strong communications skills, excellent computer skills and will be expected to serve on average 10 to 15 hours per week (but no more than 30 hours/week). The applicant should also expect to spend time outside City Hall at the meetings and other events held by the City of Lauderhill. The applicant must have the use of a car.
