Fall 2017 OPS Web Student Assistant

The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Marketing and Communications Office offers an OPS web assistant position to an undergraduate student. Student must be working towards a degree in an appropriate area of specialization (Communications, Media Production, Media/Communication Studies, Marketing, Advertising, Information Technology, etc.).

The undergraduate web assistant will work with the DSA electronic media specialist to communicate the mission and market the programs and services of DSA, Dean of Students and Oglesby Union departments through the use of Internet and media technologies. The candidate should be familiar with editing HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, editing digital photos and take an interest in learning and applying Internet based technologies. Some of the tasks and
expectations of the web/media assistant include, but are not limited to the following:
• The web assistant will work under the direction and supervision of the Communication Specialist in a Webmaster role to maintain the web sites of the units comprising Oglesby Union and Student Affairs using a text editor or WordPress.
• Assist with managing Union and Student Affairs events on university calendaring system.
• Collect content from the various units comprising Oglesby Union to be included on their respective websites. Help develop and maintain content for the Union’s web presence.
• The media assistant will capture and edit photographs and video for use on websites.
• Must be able to follow W3C standards for web development.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• The web assistant must be able to follow instructions, adhere to policy guidelines.

The undergraduate web assistant should have some familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and some experience with editing digital video (iMovie, Final Cut, etc.) would be helpful. The undergraduate student assistant should be comfortable working with Macintosh and PC computers. Experience with graphic design and knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a plus, but not necessary.
