Internship: Special Collections
This internship includes some or all of the tasks associated with Special Collections physical and electronic maintenance. This position works closely with the Allen Music Library Assistant Librarian who works with their in-house Special Collections. The collaboration between intern and librarian will produce metadata for existing collections that is both up-to-date as well as in compliance with best practices, especially among other libraries on the Florida State University campus.
The Music Library Special Collections intern will be working to standardize current metadata while inputting new information in a format both compatible with university practices. In addition, this project will serve the Music Library in a local and national capacity as it looks to participate in larger joint metadata projects in the future, such as the Sheet Music Consortium.
Though a background in music would desirable for this intern position, it will by no means be required as the metadata entry will be standard and accompanied with clear documentation. This internship is possible as the Allen Music Library recently was awarded a grant for the digitizing equipment needed to work with fragile and rare materials (a KIC Scanner station with book cradle).
