United Way of the Big Bend Education Initiative – Internship
Position Description Responsibilities
Job Description: The Education Initiative Intern helps manage United Way early literacy programs– ReadingPals and READ UNITED – within the counties located throughout the Big Bend. The Education Initiative Intern will help in to recruit volunteers, cultivate volunteer relations, manage volunteer data within a database, plan events as necessary and successfully carry out all other program deliverables for ReadingPals and READ UNITED.
Time Frame: January – May (may be longer if applicant desires)
Work Load: 20-40 hours per week
Salary: Stipend
The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with volunteer management, including: recruitment, training, scheduling and support
- Assist in development and preparation of volunteer communications and marketing materials supporting the Education Initiatives
- Assist in conducting presentations with managers, employees, and other nonprofits
- Seek opportunities to market and promote United Way’s Education Initiative’s
- Represent United Way of the Big Bend at events as needed
- Communicate regularly with volunteers to identify additional training needs/concerns and attendance
- Communicate regularly with the Leon County School district and school site coordinators and reading coaches
- Develop volunteer engagement plan that includes quarterly appreciation activity and end of year thank you event for all involved in early literacy efforts for United Way
- Conduct on-site school visits to ensure that volunteers are meeting the needs of the program
- Develop process for collecting volunteer feedback through-out program and analyze end-of-year feedback results
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with an emphasis on both written and verbal presentation skills
- Demonstrated excellence in prioritizing, problem solving, organizational skills, delivering customer satisfaction, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in internet research skills, email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and databases.
- A valid Florida driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle to travel to/from the UWBB office.
- A team player who can work in a fast paced, results driven, diverse environment, lead diverse groups of people and exhibit good judgment.
- Public speaking experience.
- Project management skills and attention to details
