Remote Student Librarian/Internship Position
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
The Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE) seeks students in or recent graduates from the MLIS program for an unpaid remote internship position as a circulation intern. The student will work with the Director of the LRCE Library and Membership Services to perform standard library and information organizations duties.
Description of the Circulation Control Intern Position:
The circulation intern maintains current data in the library patron database as well as accurate records in the library catalog. This person will also be called upon to search for requests via our online catalog or search engine. This position will greatly increase the ease in which patrons can locate materials in the online catalog as well as in the library. The circulation intern will directly impact the patron inquiry and check out procedure by making these highly efficient.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Input or change data in the library patron database, Destiny.
• Change MARC record data in the library catalog.
• Create and change existing library listings and bibliographies.
• Search for requests through our online catalog or a search engine.
• Additional duties such as assisting with library inventory/acquisitions, collection maintenance, outreach, and social media promotions when assigned by supervisor
Position Requirements
This position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to visual detail. An appreciation for patron information seeking is desirable.
Training
You will receive specific training on how to do this job. Positions will initially include on-the-job mentoring with the library director.
Supervision
Your supervisor will the library director and is responsible for day-to-day management and guidance of your work and will be available for consultation. The director will provide on-going feedback.
