Makerspace Internship: Tampa Bay Area

Westlake Christian School Makerspace Internship

Description

Westlake Christian School is a K-8 school in Palm Harbor, FL (in the Tampa Bay area) with enrollment of approximately 390 students. Westlake will soon add another building to its campus, and is planning a 914 sf makerspace in the building. Westlake is offering an internship to an FSU graduate student interested in participating in planning that makerspace and how it will be managed.

The intern will work directly with the Director of Technology and the Media Specialist at Westlake. The required work can be performed remotely. Weekly video calls will assure all relevant parties stay connected, and at least one in-person visit (at Westlake expense) may be required to allow the intern to present the plan for the physical space to the building-approval team.

This internship will occur during the Spring ’19 semester (1/7/19-5/3/19). The presentation to the building-approval team will occur in early March ‘19, with plan revisions due at the end of that month. The plan for managing the space should be complete by May 1. The makerspace will include certain items already owned by Westlake, including our Makerbot 3D printer, finishing tools for 3D prints, Mindstorms robotics kits (12 kits), one cart of Google Expeditions VR goggles, plus a variety of laptops and tablets.

The iSchool will work with Westlake and the candidate to identify how many credit hours will be earned.
