Please join the Atlanta Emerging Librarians for a resume and networking workshop on July 13th, featuring Alexandra Beswick, Pat Hawthorne and Bryan Sinclair.
“Going Pro: From the Interview to the First Year” is the second in AEL’s 2013 series on becoming a professional librarian. This event will focus on practical interview strategies for both academic and public libraries, salary negotiations, and acclimating to a new professional environment. The speakers will offer insights on how to distinguish yourself among other candidates and be a good new employee.
A social mixer will follow the event at a location tba, from 4:30-5:30 PM.

Panelist Biographies:
Alexandra Beswick
Alexandra Beswick graduated with her MLIS from the University of Rhode Island in 1990. Her 23 year career span has encompassed a spectrum of public library experience at a supervisory level, from single city libraries to multi-branch large county systems. She has been on both sides of the interview table and reviewed numerous position applications and resumes over the years. Ms Beswick recognizes that continuous learning, maintaining passion for the profession and being flexible in a climate of rapid change is inherent to remaining successful and vital in the field of librarianship.
Pat Hawthorne
Pat Hawthorne, Interim Chief Administrative Officer, oversees human resources, finance, facilities, and external relations for Emory Libraries. She previously served as Director of Research & Learning Services (Texas State University-San Marcos), Director of Library Human Resources (UCLA), Assistant University Librarian for Administrative Services (University of Miami), Administrative Projects Librarian (University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio) and Assistant Librarian (Louisiana State University). Hawthorne holds an M.A. (University of Texas at San Antonio), an M.S.L.S. (University of Kentucky in Lexington), and a B.A. (University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette). She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). She is the 2012-13 LLAMA President as well as an active ACRL member. She was selected for the 1994 TALL (Texas Accelerated Library Leaders) Texans Leadership Development Institute and the 2001 UCLA Senior Fellows Program.
Bryan Sinclair
Bryan Sinclair is Associate Dean for Public Services at Georgia State University Library, where he has served since 2010. His interests are in collaborative research and discovery spaces, data services, digital humanities, and exploring new roles for librarians. He holds a B.A. in English and Journalism/Mass Communication from Samford University and both a M.A. in Religious Studies and M.L.I.S. degree from the University of South Carolina.
