The Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) serves all of Florida’s public postsecondary institutions within the Florida College System (FCS), the State University System (SUS), and K-12 school districts. FLVC provides educational support services for these institutions and their campuses.

FLVC’s Distance Learning and Student Services is a unit of the Florida Virtual Campus, which provides an array of innovative educational services for students, educators, and administrators in Florida.

The office supports the development and maintenance of online tools offered on FloridaShines (https://www.floridashines.org/) which is Florida’s Statewide Hub of Innovative Educational Services. Our team conducts and compiles research to identify strategies for helping students grow professionally and be successful. Website: https://dlss.flvc.org/

Applicants should be currently enrolled and eligible for intern credit hours.

Salary/Compensation: Paid internship for $15/hr (up to 135 hrs) while earning up to 3 semester credit hours

Appointment type: Spring 2024 – (15-week internship appointment)

FLVC (Florida Virtual Campus) location: 1753 W Paul Dirac Dr, Tallahassee, FL 32310, Remote work also an option

Work schedule: The internship is scheduled for 9 hours per week. Schedule set with applicant during the work period. Any period during Full-time schedule 8am-5pm – Flextime availability, if needed.

Unit: Operational Performance Improvement

The mission of the Distance Learning and Support Services (DLSS) unit of the Florida Virtual Campus Library Services is to provide high-quality, innovative, and collaborative resources and services for Florida ‘s K-12, colleges, and universities. The DLSS unit supports the development and maintenance of online tools offered on FloridaShines (Florida’s Statewide Hub of Innovative Educational Services) (https://www.floridashines.org/)

Internship Duties

The Florida Virtual Campus Intern program invites undergraduate or graduate students to gain experience with innovative educational services across the state. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director of Operational Performance Improvement, the intern will be responsible for assisting quality improvement within the organization by compiling and analyzing data to help educational institutions make informed business decisions, meet statutory compliance, and implement new strategies. The intern will develop reports for ongoing projects which help to identify areas of improvement related to the online tools, services, and applications for FloridaShines.

To support DLSS initiatives across the state, the selected candidate will work with OPI support unit staff and business units to conduct quality assurance (QA) processes such as functional, regression, mobile, and compatibility testing to increase functionality and identify design improvements. The intern will conduct QA tests within the development, test, and production environments to promote quality assurance of systematic processes in meeting specified requirements. Reports will be created based upon testing results and analysis.

The intern will engage in hands-on experience and job training. Opportunities exist for acquiring and applying knowledge and skills for professional growth and development. The intern will produce a final report that details their feedback and recommendations.

Experience/Skills Needed:

· Must be enrolled in a college Degree-seeking program

· Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

· Ability to conduct research and create technical reports

· Must be able to analyze data to identify patterns or inconsistencies

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

· Proficiency with Microsoft office software (MS Word, Excel, etc.).

· Careful attention to detail

· Ability to process and provide complex information

· Knowledge of online collaboration tools, (ex: Teams, Zoom, etc.) and ability to work collaboratively in a virtual environment

· Ability to work effectively both in the context of the team and independently under self-direction

· Knowledge of QA testing functions is preferred but not required
