Volunteer opportunity — Afterschool STEM Program (Tallahassee)

The Jane and John Marks Foundation and Ladies Learning to Lead are seeking student facilitators for the first session of its Afterschool STEM Program.

25 gifted high school girls will be selected to receive training and hands-on computer learning. Volunteers will (learn about and) teach IT skills using the Raspberry Pi, a small single-board Linux computer. Topics will include:

  • HTML / CSS
  • Site development with WordPress and related tools
  • “Office” software instruction
  • Basic Command Line Skills
  • Raspberry Pi and hardware projects

NOTE: Knowledge of the above is useful, but not required. We will train.

Days and Times are as follows:

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30pm-5:30pm

Location: Appalachee Ridge Tech Center

937 Kendall Drive, Tallahassee FL 32301

Tuesdays will include “individual lab” time, Thursdays will be the main days for instruction.

Near the end of the program, the girls will compete in a one day “Girls Get IT” competition. designed to showcase students’ ideas and skills.
