IT Internship @ Florida Department of Education, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

Job Description:

This position is an Other Personal Services or OPS position, which are considered temporary in nature and intended for students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in or related to computer science, data analytics, finance, accounting or vocational rehabilitation. The work of this position is to assist in problem solving, planning and analytics to support the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in increasing compliance and quality outcomes with Floridians with Disabilities. Training and support will be provided, but the desired candidate must be able to be independent, goal directed, proactive, and organized.

The employee is also expected to be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities, and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions.  The employee must interact courteously with others.  The employee’s performance and behavior must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the bureau. The work of this position is complex administrative and consultative work providing operational coordination for the Division within the Bureau of Compliance and Quality Assurance.

Prepares work requests and projects related but not limited to:

  • Querying, cleaning, formatting and reporting qualitative and quantitative data leading to reports and further analyses for senior leaders, management, and staff.
  • Collection, summarization and reporting of various datasets related to customer satisfaction, customer complaints, and the impact on VR’s performance.
  • Provide input to Data & Analytics Unit staff for developing strategies for improving VR performance, customer satisfaction and decreasing customer complaints.
  • Log in and assist in responding to requests for data, reports, or analyses while clarifying requirements, criteria, audience and intended use.
  • Assisting in the creation, obtaining and organization of documentation, citations, caveats, data sources, previous reports and examples, when available.
  • Assisting with the designing, developing and maintaining SQL procedures, data queries and visualizations (especially PROC,  TSQL, Tableau and Excel) requested by our customers (e.g., HQ, FRC, field offices, public records requests, and legislative committees, etc.).
  • Assist with producing numbers, aggregate measures, visualizations and graphs for ad-hoc requests and/or routine reports for the Division’s internal and external customers.
  • Document and maintain data measures to assist with tracking and monitoring the organization’s performance.
  • Assist with reviewing administrative policies, procedures, guidelines that support the management reporting system.
  • Consults with staff members to develop solutions for programmatic operational problems.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Attendance is an essential function of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data

Skills using Microsoft Office, SAS, R, and/or Tableau

Ability to organize data into logical format for dashboards, reports, etc.

Knowledge of the design, development, and maintenance of SQL queries

Background Screening Requirement

It is the policy of the Florida Department of Education that applicants for employment undergo level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer. All applicants for employment or to volunteer who are selected for an interview will be provided with the Consent to Background Screening form for level 2 screening, the Affidavit of Good Moral Character, and the Notice of Rights. The leading candidate for employment or to volunteer will be required to execute the Consent form and Affidavit, report to a designated location, and submit fingerprints for level 2 screening. No applicant for a designated position will be employed or permitted to volunteer until the level 2 screening results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Department.
Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.
