Summer 2022 Internship Program @ local news and media company based out of Gadsden County – Paid

Summer interns with Gadsden County News Corp. will receive first-hand, on-the-ground experience when it comes to writing news stories, covering news-worthy events, conducting interviews, photojournalism, and networking.
Gadsden County News Corp. publishes three award-winning North Florida publications (The Havana Herald, the Chattahoochee News-Herald/Sneads Sentinel, and the Gadsden County Times), and interns will be writing a mix of stories that pertain to all three.
News beats are flexible, but interns can expect to cover: governmental meetings, community events, detailed feature pieces on community personalities, sports, historical research articles…with other opportunities available for guest columns, and investigative journalism.
We will match qualified interns with the beats and coverage that best match their interests and career goals.
Applying interns should:
- Be proficient in photography, with either a personal camera or smartphone with excellent photo-taking abilities.
- Have a portfolio of written or photographic work (does not have to be news-related) available.
- Have access to personal transportation (position does require a driver’s license).
- Provide a resume, even if none of their previous experience matches the role.
- Be a self-starter and reliable worker who can balance working from home with an occasionalin-office visit for newsroom meetings.
- Have access to a computer.
- Be familiar with Google Docs/Google Drive software.
- Be communicative and upfront.
- Be familiar with the importance of deadlines.
What will you learn?
Interns who apply to work with the Gadsden County News Corp. will learn what it is like to work in a local newsroom and be given the opportunity to expand their knowledge, experience and resume when it comes to journalism and reporting – all while getting paid to do so.
Interns will also learn skills related to the demands of journalism – such as timeliness, deadlines, accuracy, interviewing skills, networking, and more.
Interns may have the opportunity to take part in networking events attended or hosted by Gadsden County News Corp.
