Responsibilities
The School of Communication at Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position specializing in science communication. We seek candidates who approach this topic from a wide variety of methodologies, including qualitative, quantitative, and/or critical scholars.
FSU’s School of Communication has a long-standing reputation for providing cutting-edge research, teaching excellence, and public outreach that influence and lead the field of communication and related industries. The successful candidate will have a strong record of scholarship in science communication, demonstrated through high-quality publications.
Successful candidates will be asked to teach two courses per semester.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research focused on applied and/or theoretical issues in science communication.
- Seek extramural funding to support a successful research agenda.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Communication, with opportunities to develop new courses in areas of expertise.
- Engage in service to the School, University, and academic community.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Communication, Information Science, and/or related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered if their degree will be conferred by August 2026.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that complement existing School strengths.
We are especially interested in scholars focusing on science communication with a record of seeking and acquiring extramural funding.
We are interested in scholars exploring science communication from a wide range of perspectives, including but not limited to environmental, health, and/or risk messaging, strategic communication campaigns, politicization of health and science information, environmental justice, community resilience, and/or community competence in communication. All viewpoints, methods, and levels of analysis are welcome.
