Responsibilities

  • Provides overall direction, administration, and management of the marketing and branding of Campus Recreation. Assesses and develops strategies to reach a diverse user population (students, faculty and staff). Develops and manages marketing and branding strategies for all programs and facilities within Campus Recreation including campaigns designed to encourage new participation and diversify existing participation. Produces and maintains an active plan and timeline for all marketing campaigns to include evaluation and assessment of the effectiveness of campaigns. Initiates production meetings and long range planning with department leaders. Develops, maintains and monitors annual marketing budget. Develops & implements policies and procedures in accordance with Department, Division, and University guidelines.
  • Coordinates the planning and implementation of departmental special events, which include the annual Campus Recreation Alumni Tailgate, Night of Recognition Banquet, and Spring Scholarship Golf Tournament. Serves as main point of contact for events and coordinates staffing. Coordinates and monitors event timelines and works closely with vendors on rental equipment, venues, and catering for events. Designs promotional materials and oversees announcements and notifications. Maintains database of alumni and vendor contact information. Establishes and maintains effective communication with alumni and Campus Recreation stakeholders.
  • Oversees staffing responsibilities for assigned area, including but not limited to recruitment, selection, hiring, training, and evaluation. Supervises and mentors professional staff member(s) and marketing and special event OPS student staff, program interns, and graduate assistants. Develops staff and student leadership opportunities.
  • Plans and coordinates community and campus outreach programming. Works closely with various staff to develop departmental presentations and educational materials to be used at various University events, including membership recruitment, programmatic outreach, and new student and employee orientations. Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other university departments and the community via campus involvement through University, Student Affairs, and departmental committees and task forces. Serves on various University, Divisional, and Campus Recreation committees.
  • Oversees overall design and coordinates regular updates to the departmental web site. Manages social media accounts for the department and provides guidance to associated program social media accounts.
  • Maintains departmental inventory of sponsorship opportunities. Identifies, secures and cultivates ongoing relationships with internal and external partners for departmental programs and events. Negotiates sponsorship terms and rates with partners and provides ongoing sponsorship management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Marketing, Event Planning, Recreation, Sports Management, Communications, etc.) and four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience developing and managing marketing and branding strategies.
  • Experience securing and maintaining ongoing relationships with various sponsors.
  • Experience managing websites and social media accounts.
  • Experience collaborating with partners to coordinate and organize special events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Preferred
Master’s degree in related field (Marketing, Event Planning, Recreation, Sports Management, Communications, etc.).
