The Cataloger performs original and copy cataloging based on current standards, database maintenance, authority control, and provides training and inventory support for the Libraries and for the Doy Leale McCall Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and resolves cataloging problems. The Cataloger serves as a resource person for cataloging, and keeps abreast of national and international standards for bibliographic control of library materials. Leads or participates in special projects as assigned. The Catalog librarian has responsibility for and liaison duties with at least one academic department and additional duties in the Reference department, which include instruction and staffing the reference desk one a night a week and on rotating weekends. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track, library faculty appointment, with a start date of August 15, 2014, at the Assistant Librarian rank in the Marx Library. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly and service activities expected of tenure-track librarians.
Qualifications: Required. Earned master’s degree from an ALA- accredited program. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of cataloging, subject analysis, classification, and authority control and experience applying those principles according to recognized rules and standards, including RDA, LC classification, LCSH, and AACR2. Knowledge of and experience with MARCformats and OCLC cataloging input standards. Knowledge of OCLC Connexion and an Integrated Library System. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong oral and written communication skills.
Qualifications: Preferred. Additional master’s degree. At least 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in an academic library. Knowledge of FRBR, RDA, MARC descriptive metadata schema. Knowledge of MARCedit. Experience with the NLM classification system. Experience with Voyager Integrated Library System
