General Description
Florida TaxWatch Communications Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the interactions between TaxWatch and the statewide media. Working under the Vice President for Research and with the Director of Publications, the Communications Coordinator handles the official TaxWatch response to incoming media requests; composes initial drafts of all news releases, opinion pieces and columns; and manages the distribution
and publication of TaxWatch research and media releases. Additionally, the Communications Coordinator manages the TaxWatch social media accounts, assists with maintaining the TaxWatch websites, and other related tasks.

This position is full-time, salary + bene”ts, compensation commensurate with experience.
Ideal Candidate/Requirements

The ideal candidate will be able to work quickly and adapt to changing deadlines, be an excellent writer, have an attention to detail, and have experience or training working with the media. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and HTML/CSS knowledge a plus. Quali#ed applicants will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Political Science, Public Relations, or similar field.

Florida TaxWatch Communications Coordinator – Primary Roles & Responsibilities
• Compose Initial Drafts of:
• All News Releases (typically several per week)
• Op-Ed pieces/Columns (bi-weekly/weekly)
• Obituaries when necessary
• Manage Publication of Op-Eds/Columns
• Manage strategic placement of Op-Eds and Columns
• Maintain and track Op-Eds published
• Manage social media
• Create and manage efforts to drive traffic to site
• Receive and coordinate incoming press request
• Ensure that the right FTW staff (with the proper level of knowledge/authority) ful#lls the request in a timely manner
• Track news coverage of all FTW
• Manage/monitor newspaperclips.com and Google Alerts
• Compile daily press clips
• Generate bi-weekly “FTW In e News” to membership
• Archive all news clips electronically
• Keep statistical metrics of news mentions/coverage/placement of opinion pieces
• Strategically manage the distribution of all FTW materials to media outlets
• Develop partnership(s) with media outlets for publication of original content
• Maintain up-to-date list of media contacts
• Develop & maintain good personal relationships with media outlets
• Manage the distribution of all FTW materials to members/prospects/others
• Compose monthly member newsletter for print and electronic distribution
• Assist with maintenance of TaxWatch websites
