Communications Director

A well established Florida law firm with a concentration in niche practice areas is seeking an experienced communications professional to become a key individual contributor on a high-performing, diverse team responsible for growing the Firm. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced, talented team ready to grow rapidly in a rewarding environment. This newly created key position will report to the Senior Partner of the Firm and be highly involved in driving the presence of the Firm, thought leadership of the Senior Partner, and awareness of the Senior Partner’s charitable foundation and its community efforts.

The Firm is seeking a high energy, experienced manager who can drive awareness and reach of a statewide growing law firm, integrating synergies from the activities of its Senior Partner and his charitable foundation into the approach. This individual will primarily be responsible for developing and managing public relations and communications in support of the Firm’s marketing and growth strategy.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing abilities, oral communication skills, strong existing media relationships, and the ability to develop additional relationships with key members of the media and industry influencers. The Director shall lead all aspects of Media Relations, External Affairs, and Digital Media presence, significantly contributing to overall Brand Positioning. The successful candidate should have deep hands-on experience in leading awareness/exposure initiatives, developing successful relationships with media outlets, and writing effective communications and compelling stories. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to generate opportunities, while representing the Firm with confidence, sophistication and sensitivity, often leveraging the Senior Partner as a thought leader, and the Senior Partner’s charitable foundation’s activity in the community.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING:

Creating effective, targeted communications for a broad range of audiences-families affected by catastrophic injuries, influencers in health care networks, community and collaborative partners, media, general public, and others-reflecting a deep familiarity with issues being faced by potential clients and the communities of influence around their injury types;

Creating media interest and responding to media inquiries and, over time, building, deepening and strengthening relationships with key members of the legal and health care media;

Supporting the Senior Partner as spokesperson in developing, preparing for and executing outreach efforts;

With the Senior Partner, developing issue-specific and broader, integrated media and potential-client attraction strategies; leveraging the Firm’s reach, the Senior Partner’s activities as an industry thought leader and the works of his charitable foundation;

Creating content for the Firm’s website (articles, on-going blog-posts), social media channels, and for other external communications, including press releases, bylined articles, executive bios, speeches and presentation proposals;

Providing valued input on marketing, communications and media strategy based on experience and sound judgment;

Working with senior management team to develop and refine the Firm’s strategies for building and enhancing the brand on a statewide and national basis;

Establishing and tracking progress to measure success on resource deployment;

Managing award programs for the Firm, its attorneys, and its community and charitable efforts.

Qualifications:
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

A Bachelors Degree, preferably in English, Journalism or Communications with a strong academic record-additional coursework in marketing is preferred;

8+ years of experience in one of the following situations: as a member of the legal services, corporate communications and/or health care practice of a highly-regarded public relations firm; as a hands-on practitioner in the communications department of a law firm or health care organization; as a journalist covering emerging health care or legal issues, with a particular focus on the personal injury space;

Demonstrated leadership ability with a desire to passionately embrace the organization’s mission and vision, and work closely with a dynamic Senior Partner;

Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to distill often complex legal and health care issues into compelling and audience-tailored communications;

Outstanding interpersonal skills, business maturity and discretion, with significant experience working with senior management teams on confidential and high profile matters;

A proven self-starter with excellent organizational skills, who thrives in a fast-paced work environment and is capable of delivering exceptional work product;

An understanding of emerging health care issues in trauma care and neurological injuries;

Demonstrated knowledge of the social media landscape and how to effectively and sensitively leverage various channels to meet the objectives of the Firm and its charitable efforts;

Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, and functional understanding of web applications and social media tools.
