Born This Way Foundation is hiring a New York City-based Community Programs Coordinator to assist with the launch of a new partnership and national program, ensuring its smooth operation and impact. The position will report to the Director of Programs, and upon hiring will serve until the end of the project – currently slated for December 2020. The right candidate for this role will be passionate about organizing powerful + meaningful events, believe in the power of young people, and will think creatively about how to reach as many people as possible to hear + be inspired by the impactful message of this project.

The Community Programs Coordinator will be responsible for the development and execution of twelve regional events across the country over the next year. Through these events, we aim to reach a broad audience of youth, parents, students, educators, local organizations, and community leaders in order to raise awareness around mental health, reduce stigma, directly engage youth and communities to create parity and inclusion, increase access to resources, and accelerate advances in prevention, research, diagnosis and treatment.

Led by Lady Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta, Born This Way Foundation was founded in 2012 to support the wellness of young people and empower them to create a kinder and braver world. To achieve these goals, Born This Way Foundation leverages rigorous academic research and authentic partnerships in order to provide young people with kinder communities, improved mental health resources, more positive climates – online and offline.

Role + Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement regional events in a variety of formats – including speaking programs, resource fairs, educational trainings, and youth-led service activities
  • Develop and manage a network of event sub-contractors that simplifies the event planning process
  • Manage all aspects of the event planning process, including collaboration with subcontractors, venue identification, budget tracking, securing approval as-required from our team and our partners, and maintaining these critical relationships at each level
  • Perform outreach to and collaborate with local community organizations, event subcontractors, and other partners necessary for each event’s successful completion
  • Create summary reports of each event outlining how data gathered from current community events can be used to develop successful future events
  • Travel, as-needed, and being available during some evenings and weekends
  • Keep detailed records of expenses
  • Appropriately represent the Foundation on calls and at events and meetings
  • Perform additional tasks in support of the project and the Foundation’s overall operations

 

Experience + Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or at least 2 years of work experience required
  • Must be New York City-based
  • Interest in and comfort with working with young people a must, including the ability to make youth feel engaged and empowered while maintaining professionalism
  • Willingness to take initiative and desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to maintain high-quality work while meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong organization and event planning skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • A personal commitment to Born This Way Foundation’s mission
