Digital Journalist

Job Description ABC News is hiring a Digital Journalist in Miami, Fl.

Work will center around Miami, Florida and the Southeast, and will mainly (but not exclusively) be with the Miami bureau correspondent. In addition, coverage of breaking and feature news in Latin America will be an area of responsibility. Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be editorially strong and creative, resourceful in the field, skilled in the latest news gathering technologies, and have extensive reporting and producing experience.

ABC News is responsible for all of the ABC Television Network’s news programming, including “World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer,” “Nightline,” “Good Morning America,” “20/20,” “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” ABC News Radio, ABCNews.com, and satellite service NewsOne. An award-winning team provides the latest information and analysis of major events to bring viewers a big-picture understanding of the world. A premier news and information alliance between ABC News and Yahoo! News blends the Network’s global news-gathering operation and unrivaled lineup of trusted anchors and reporters with the digital media company’s vast distribution and cutting-edge technology to reach up to 100 million people in the U.S. each month on PCs, mobile devices and tablets. In addition, ABC News and Univision News have formed a joint venture to launch a multiplatform news, information and entertainment service to deliver culturally relevant programming in English to U.S. Hispanics, the youngest and fastest growing demographic in the U.S.

Responsibilities

•Cover breaking, ongoing and feature news in FL, the Southeast and Latin America
•Produce content for shows and platforms, often in partnership with the Miami bureau correspondent
•File for ABC News Digital and Radio as needed
•Cover events and produce elements for other journalists at ABC News as assigned by NY Assignment Desk
•Pitch, develop and produce stories to all Shows and Platforms
•Establish and maintain a network of sources and contacts in Florida and the Southeast

Candidates must be willing to relocate to Miami in the near future, and commit to spending at least 2 years there. Candidates must be able to travel extensively and be comfortable reporting and being assigned by management in New York.
Candidate will be expected to travel on short notice for extended periods.

Basic Qualifications

•At least three years experience at a news organization
•Strong writing ability, field and production experience
•Experience covering breaking and ongoing news in the field
•Involvement in production of breaking and feature news stories for Broadcast and Digital
•Must be strong with all field newsgathering skills, including DV shooting, editing and field transmission

Preferred Qualifications

•At least five years of experience in network news
•Spanish and other language skills preferred
Preferred Education •College degree
